SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO HAVE A GOOD HIKE:
Don't follow this boy's example! A fishing rod won't
be of any use!
Trousers or shorts are optional but recommended when crossing urban areas.
Why walk on the railway when there are hundreds of kilometers of marked
hiking trails all around Paris?
You'd do better to follow our enlightened advice:
Bring a small, light-weight backpack to carry your snacks
and the picnic lunch that you prepared, if possible, the evening before
the hike. In summer, don't forget your suntan cream and a hat or cap and
above all, bring enough drinking water. A couple of bandages
and something for blisters might also come in handy.
Even if the weather forecast predicts fine weather, don't forget
a light-weight, water-proof jacket or cape. In winter, you'll need
cold weather clothing that will keep you warm all day in the fields and
forests where it is always colder than in town.
Whatever the season or weather may be, avoid dance pumps,
high heels and other shoes for drag queens.
Wear shoes that protect your ankles and have soles that grip,
to prevent you from slipping and twisting an ankle (that can really be
painful). Accidents don't always happen toothers.....
Just as a reminder, shoes which fit well should not squeeze yourfeet
or let your feet rub back and forth. Heavy wool socks in winterand
light cotton socks in summer are recommended. Hikers who want to
avoid blisters don't wear socks in synthetic materials such as nylon.
Of dogs and hikers...
The Board of Directors of Rando's wishes to remind you that dogs must
be kept on a lead when going through built-up areas and when crossing
a road, and that their presence must not be a nuisance for the other hikers.
Another important reminder:
If you want to join us for a day hike, it is not necessary to sign
up or reserve in advance. The meeting time and place (usually in a Paris
train station) is indicated for each hike. Anyone wishing
to join the group later at the train station where the train arrives and
where the hike begins, may wait for the group in the main hall of the
station or on the platform.
If you would like more information, drop us a line and
we'll do our best to reply rapidly in acceptable English.
